Go-To Sandwich Bread Recipe (No Sourdough!)
AmericanMom Team |
The world is obsessed with sourdough (and so are we), but sometimes sourdough is not obsessed with us. In other words, our loaves end up deflated, our starters don’t start, and our family is left without bread, or with a loaf that just doesn’t serve the need and desire for a good sandwich. And good sandwich bread is a must for Knead November (and every other month of the year). Which is why we proudly present to you our go-to sandwich bread recipe (no sourdough allowed!).
Go-To Recipes
Never underestimate the go-to recipe. This is the recipe that is water damaged and stained. It’s torn and dogeared but when you pick it up and start collecting familiar ingredients, it feels like home. Sometimes, you don’t even still need the recipe – it’s all done by heart – but you still grab the paper or the book, run your fingers over the words and the flour-crusted surface, and then bake with your heart and soul a recipe that has become a part of the family.
When it comes to bread, it’s vital to have a go-to. This is the loaf you throw together in the morning to have sandwiches for lunch. It’s the one that’s always in the oven and on the counter being sliced for toast or dipped in olive oil. These go-to recipes make it easy to put bread on the table without having to plan or think too much about it.
Bread
As we said before, we love a good sourdough. But not everyone has the time for that process or consistent success with sourdough recipes. In our books, all bread is good, so don’t be embarrassed to avoid sourdough like the plague and simply perfect a good, versatile bread that the whole family loves.
We know the culture is very anti-bread at the moment, which is why we also encourage you to explore better flour options. Organic flour, home-milled flour, and different varieties of flours (like einkorn) all make your bread a little healthier. There are also some great gluten-free options out there now, so do what you need to do to get bread back in your life!

Can I Freeze Bread?
Yes! You can freeze bread as a whole loaf, or as individual slices for up to 3 months. Simply wrap in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe bag and put it in the freezer. It is best to wait until the loaf is completely cooled before freezing. Completely unwrap the bread the day you want to eat it and let it thaw on the counter. You can also warm the loaf in the oven at 200 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until warmed to your preference.
Happy baking!
