Building a New Girl Culture: An Inside Look at Waverly Girl’s Mission
AmericanMom Team |
“To solve the girlhood crisis we must consider her emotional, intellectual, creative, and spiritual pillars as she grows into a young woman.”
– Molly, Waverly Girls
Any parent will tell you that kids do not come with instruction manuals. And when it comes to the differences between raising boys versus girls, there’s really no one-size-fits-all plan of attack. The years are hard, each age presenting a new challenge for both parents and kids, and the world does not make it any easier. This culture we find ourselves in is destructive. If it isn’t telling your girls they aren’t good enough, it’s showing them how to “become” boys. If it’s not encouraging sexual behaviors and immodesty, it’s explaining all the ways your girl can embrace a spirit of victimhood. The positives feel few and far between…but what if we told you there was a subscription box for girlhood?
Well, it may not be a subscription box that delivers everything you need in order to raise girls in a neat little package, but it is a girls-only space where new girl culture is being built and flourishing. Directed by Molly Wills Reed, Waverly Girl offers the perfect counter-cultural, God-centered, pro-girl, feminine online and in-person space where girls are allowed to be…well, girls!
God’s Divine Feminine Design
You don’t hear those words very often, but that’s the exact phrase Waverly Girl founder, Molly, used to describe her organization and the work they do.
“Rebuilding girl culture to reflect God’s Divine feminine design; in purpose, in service and in calling.”
At its core, Waverly Girl is all about empowerment—just not the type of empowerment you and I might think of in 2025. No, this is the type of empowerment that has been handed down for millenia, from mother to daughter, through a spirit given to women by God at the very beginning. Specifically, this Divine feminine design is built and made to thrive through Biblical empowerment.
“Biblical empowerment does not look like the world’s version of empowerment,” says Molly. “And in order to solve the girlhood crisis we must consider her emotional, intellectual, creative, and spiritual pillars as she grows into a young woman. These heart issues must be nurtured with intention and practical application.”
“Waverly Girl recognizes that, without Biblical principles and values, you are not addressing the core issue: that every heart is starving for truth and a savior. It is actually our salvation that fuels our sense of empowerment! And as we grow in our faith, our feminine nature develops, reflecting our Creator and His calling on our life. This develops within all the virtues we long for as girls!”
Girl Culture
“Girl culture today runs on hyper-sexual content, gross, unladylike behaviors, egregious beauty standards, toxic femininity and self-help, and self-centered ideology. It’s completely backwards, upside down, and broken.” – Molly
The argument could be made that there is no such thing as girl culture these days. Everything that comes into contact with your daughter in 2025 is designed to force them to grow up, to take part in adult interests, and leave behind their innocence for the sake of fitting in. Make up, clothes, movies, TV shows, music, social media, influencers, peers, woke teachers. All of these have one thing in common: they don’t want your daughter to be a happy, fulfilled girl, they want her to be an automaton separated from innocence, beauty, and God.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Your little girl can be a little girl and Waverly Girls is here to help.
“Waverly Girl has developed programs and relatable experiences that teach girls the truth about their Divine feminine nature. We are creating content and messaging that feeds her soul in the ways she was designed to be fed! Our curriculum challenges them to see themselves as Christ sees them: beautiful, set apart, brave, and original.”
The Girlhood Struggle
There are so many influences on our children these days, and they are all hard to ignore. Our girls need space. They need space to exist as themselves, they need space to feel God’s love, and they need space to realize that there is no rush, and nothing more important than building character, practicing grace, and cultivating your relationship with Christ.
We asked Molly her opinion: What is it that little girls struggle with the most these days?
“Little girls struggle with self confidence mixed with anxiety. There is so much pressure to look a certain way, today. Because of social media, this issue is impacting girls younger and younger. Girls are no longer allowed or expected to remain pure and innocent until middle school years. Our culture encourages beauty routines, crop tops and makeup as early as 3rd grade!!!
“There is no room for her to develop and play and establish her Divine feminine roots. This rush to grow up eliminates the girlhood process creating anxiety, inadequacy and self-doubt as she feels disconnected from whose she is. Not to mention this creates tremendous pressure to look and act like a teenager when all her heart wants is to be told to remain a little girl.”
The Waverly Girl Solution: A New Girl Culture

You’ve heard the phrase parallel economy, but Waverly Girl is starting a parallel culture. This culture will hopefully not be in competition for long, but will become the norm across the world. And not only because it is reclaiming girls’ spaces, but because it is reclaiming girlhood as it should be.
When asked, Molly said she chose the name Waverly because it “means a meadow of Aspen trees. Aspen comes from the Greek word “Aspis” which means “shield,” signifying a protective nature. Additionally their root system grows laterally and forms strong clusters making them resilient and mysteriously powerful. To me, the name beautifully reflects God’s heart and nature for HIS daughters.”
When girls have a sturdy root system, they are not shaken quite as easily. For Waverly Girl, that root system starts with God.
“We are first and foremost grounded in Biblical values. We reinforce what God says about them. We communicate the power and beauty in our Divine femininity and that there is honor and respect in walking in purity and grace. Girls need to be taught this, it’s not learned through osmosis. We are the only platform (that we know about) providing relatable and inspiring programs that talk with them, not at them. Mainstream culture is strong and Waverly Girl recognizes the only way they will engage is if we inspire them to open up, and the truth of God’s word does the rest!”
To accomplish the monumental task of redefining girlhood and returning to core values, Waverly Girl is instituting a system, curriculum, and network where girls can find rest from the outside world and build foundational relationships with other girls—so they can be kids together!
As part of their programming, they have girls read and sign the “Waverly Way” girl code which includes affirmations like “we are girls, we are individually amazing”, and “a Waverly Girl understands she is a child of the Living God”. When you attend a Girl Class, or any of their other events, you have this consistent message. It is designed to remind girls of “who God calls them to be: His, kind, inclusive, service minded, creative, unique, etc.”
And it’s one of the most important parts of the Waverly Girl mission. Because “the world sells an image of a girl that goes against our very nature.” It is the Waverly Girl philosophy that the more they are exposed to positive, clean, wholesome, Christ-centered messaging that points to truth and what girlhood was meant to be, “the more they [will] recognize and [be] drawn to the truth of girlhood.”

A set aside time to indulge in all things girl, hang out with friends, craft, chat, share, and embrace the girly side sounds like a dream — but it doesn’t have to be! For Waverly Girl members and event participants, it is reality!
“Our Girl Class and events have young women volunteer who act as “role models.” This is hugely important as girls crave mentors and big sisters they can emulate. Girls see first hand the power and confidence behind a young woman walking with Jesus. It then becomes clear to her…who she wants to be! Waverly Girl is ALL about leading by example.”
These events, which can be online or in person, are designed for “nurturing a healthy feminine identity, fostering creative education, and providing faith-based mentorship.” It’s the perfect environment for young women to find a culture grounded in truth, beauty, friendship, elegance, strength of character, and everything else they will need to survive our crazy world.

We had a lot to learn about this fantastic organization and program, and were so excited to get the chance to chat with Waverly Girl founder, Molly.
What makes Waverly Girl’s approach to empowerment unique?
We believe God designed every one of His children with a calling and a purpose. Our message is purpose-driven. God’s plans for you empower you! When girls understand that they are an original, the competition disappears. The catty behavior fades away, and relationships and communities thrive.
How do you respond to those who may not understand or support a return to more traditional values?
Look at the fruit produced since the feminist movement began in the ‘70s? Has womanhood become more “empowered”? Have little girls become stronger and more self assured? No. Teenagers are having a mental health crisis. Our girlhood is disappearing, and womanhood is nothing but confused. Women are leaving the church while men are returning to church? Yet the data clearly proves the further you go from God and His values, the darker and harder your road becomes. Women are growing increasingly unhappy, unmarried and lost looking for real meaning. It’s clear without values, without faith, culture deteriorates.
Tell us about the Grow Box! What factors influence the selection of activities and materials for each Grow Box?
Our Grow Box is all about unlocking Girlhood! Designed to be the next American Girl Doll, but of course packaged in a very different way! Every box has a video, led by me, guiding each segment. We also understand girls respond well to creative, girly, D.I. Y. projects! We consider our feminine nature and include “lost art” forms that inspire her God-given gifts and person to blossom!
The goal of our grow box: for her to bloom where she is planted! That she will find tremendous connection with her creator, make lifelong friends (a feature coming soon) and understand that her gifts have meaning and purpose.
- Values and manners – Listen
- Faith and bible study – Journal
- Create and imagine – DIY
How do the activities inside the Grow Box help reinforce faith, creativity, and confidence?
We use a scripture verse to inspire every box “theme” and message. Our hope is that we help her connect the dots between God’s word and her personal development! As we mentioned, values & manners and Bible study tie back to the theme and scripture verse, empowering her faith and establishing her confidence as we declare powerful feminine truths and formation over her heart.
How do you see hands-on learning shaping a girl’s understanding of faith and personal growth?
Humans learn by doing. God designed us to use our hands to honor Him in all that we do! We connect with Him the more we understand how He made us! It is a very powerful and Biblical practice to create; we encourage girls to develop a relationship with their creator in order to grow into who He created her to be! And the more you practice building and creating, the more you see how He’s wired you!
The Grow Box is such a sweet and lovely idea! What kind of feedback have you received from girls and families who have used the Grow Box?
The Grow Box has provided community! We have a group of girls who all subscribe and once a month they get together, watch the video and learn and grow together. “It has been a tremendous answer to prayer in providing a solution for healthy sisterhood and happy girls,” said one of the moms.
“Waverly grow box has helped so much with her confidence as she hears from Molly month after month [that] God made her on purpose for a purpose. When you have powerful voices speaking into your daughter’s heart, it’s the greatest gift you can receive as a mom.”
What’s your long-term vision for Waverly Girl? Where do you hope to see it in five years?
This is amazing. We just scheduled an “In 5 years” team meeting for next week! I pray it has a similar impact as American Girl but of course with different products. Our message is similar to theirs when they first started out: that girls would be rooted and grounded in the truth about their girlhood and know that God made them with tremendous purpose in mind!
I pray our curriculum is across the country in 100’s of home school groups and after-school programs. We have a curriculum, “Girl Class Club”, so spread the word if you know any groups who would be interested!
I pray our grow box is in every faith filled/(curious) conservative household in 5 years.
And I pray our young women’s network is up and momhood grows. That there will be unity around our girls and in girl culture, together, building God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven!
