Why Voting Matters: A Critical Call to Action for American Moms

As moms, we know the urgency of protecting and nurturing what matters most. This election, more than ever, we are at a pivotal moment—one that calls us to stand up, speak out, and vote. Our values, our faith, and the future of our families are at stake, and as Christian mothers, we have the power to make a profound impact. Our vote does matter—and it’s our responsibility to use it.

God’s Call to Engage with Government

The Bible reminds us in Romans 13:1-2 that “there is no authority except that which God has established.” Government was designed by God to bring about justice and peace, yet it’s our role as believers to ensure these principles are upheld. We are not called to passively observe but to actively engage. Our vote is our voice, our way of seeking God’s will for our community and our nation. Proverbs 31:8-9 also urges us to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Casting our vote is one way we can stand up for justice, mercy, and truth.

Honoring the Legacy of Women’s Suffrage

When we step into that voting booth, we honor generations of women who fought tooth and nail to ensure we had this right. In 1848, a small group of women convened in Seneca Falls, New York, launching the women’s suffrage movement and declaring their right to participate in shaping the country. For over 70 years, women like Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, and Alice Paul gave everything to secure the vote, often at great personal cost.

In 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting women the right to vote. But the fight for equality didn’t end there. It wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that all women, regardless of race, could vote without discrimination. These women paved the way, leaving us with a legacy of resilience and determination that we can honor each time we cast a ballot.

Where Voting Rights Are Still at Risk

While we are blessed with this right, let’s not forget that many women around the world still face restrictions or outright bans on voting. In countries like Saudi Arabia, women only recently gained the right to vote in 2015, and even then, many face severe limitations. In Vatican City, only male cardinals can vote for the Pope, leaving women with no voice in the church’s highest decision-making process. In Brunei, there has not been a parliamentary election since 1962, and all citizens, especially women, face restrictions on political participation. Voting is a rare privilege in some parts of the world, a reminder that we must not take ours for granted.

Why Your Vote Is Urgent

This is a critical time. As Christian moms, we’re called to protect and lead our families, and our vote is a crucial way to do that. We are not just voters; we are guardians of a future that will impact our children, grandchildren, and communities. Now is the time to use our vote to uphold our values and speak for those who can’t. Let’s pray for wisdom, seek God’s guidance, and take action.

In the words of Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” The urgency is real, and the stakes are high. Our country needs leaders who stand for truth, justice, and compassion, and we have the power to help put them there.

So, moms, let’s show up. Let’s make our voices heard. Let’s vote—for our families, for our faith, and for the future. Our vote matters, and together, we can make a difference.
