Red, White & You: Celebrate History with an Election Party!

It’s an election year, which means stressful months and a bombardment of information about candidates we may or may not even like. Our politicians have a hard time making us feel safe in election years and the future is so unknown that we can’t help but feel a disconnect from our communities. So why not make the best of it with an election party? Whether you love or hate the options on our ballot, every election is a piece of history and deserves a little recognition and celebration. If you’re feeling the hosting bug and want to bring people together this election season, then an election party might be just what you need!

Invitations

It’s easy enough to find regular invites online. There are lots of options on Etsy, but it’s also easy to create your own. or, just shoot out a text to your favorite people and say “hey, come over, I’ve got snacks!” Easy enough, right?

If you need a little help, we like these from ThePrintableOccasion. Or, maybe better, these from Yallinvited. 😉

Patriotic Decorations

Bust out the American flags because, at the end of the day, we should all be on the same team: Team America! Embrace the stars and red, white, and blue decor with flags (of course), banners, tablecloths, streamers, star cutouts, and photos of Lady Liberty, Uncle Sam, and other American icons.

Cookies

Creative people can do amazing things with icing these days, which means you can get personalized and very artistic and patriotic cookies perfect for elections! Or make your own with a sugar cookie recipe, star cookie cutters, and royal icing.

TV and Channel or Streaming Selections to Watch Updates

Don’t forget about the TV. Make sure your TV is set up and able to tune into a channel or stream a live YouTube feed for real-time updates. To avoid commentary, just mute it and check in on the numbers every once in a while.

Themed Food

Here’s where you can get creative. An American Flag charcuterie board made with blueberries, strawberries, crackers, salami, cheese, and pound cake (photo below) is a really easy option, as well as Donald Trump marshmallows, American flag taco dip, hamburger sliders, wings, veggies, and cheese.

And don’t forget about drinks! Lemonade, sweet iced tea, and flavored soda waters are fun non-alcoholic options, or try this patriotic mocktail. But if you need something stiffer, try this Red, White, and Rosé sangria, all-American Yuengling beer, and locally distilled liqueurs.

Election Bingo Cards

A super fun “game” addition to your election party is Election Bingo! Grab this bingo template and have fun tracking the catchphrases and events of your typical election. Gather prizes—gift cards, locally made candles, etc.—to hand out to winners!

Patriotic Playlist

And, since the TV might be muted, throw in a patriotic playlist (like this one we made for 4th of July), and enjoy some fun, patriotic songs to inspire the American Spirit!

We hope and pray you all have a safe and fun election day. Don’t forget to vote, say a prayer, and have fun with the people you love!
