A Modern Mom’s Guide: Fighting Culture and Standing Strong in Faith

In April 2023, I found myself sitting in the OBGYN’s office, 33 weeks pregnant, waiting to hear the latest about our baby girl. Suddenly, my husband’s phone rang—it was HR, demanding that he come to the office. We knew layoffs were coming, but we never imagined it would happen now, not after his 15 years of dedication to the hospital. He worked through COVID, supported staff, patients, and gave his all. Yet, like many corporate decisions, loyalty didn’t matter.

I sat there, finishing the appointment alone, heart heavy but determined. When my husband came back with severance papers, my spirit burned. No insurance, no financial safety net, just weeks away from giving birth—yet here we were. I was frustrated, I was angry, but I knew this: God had not abandoned us.

It was at that moment I felt the fire inside me. Proverbs 31 teaches that we are women of strength, resilience, and purpose. “Fear not,” I told myself. God had a bigger plan, and it was time for me to step into it—not just as a mom, but as a warrior for my family.

Flashback: From Corporate America to Building a Life Aligned with God
Let’s rewind to 2012, when I had my first child. Fresh out of college, excited for motherhood, but quickly thrown back into the pressures of the world. “We can’t afford for you to stay home,” my then-husband said. So, I went back to work, even though it wasn’t where my heart was.

I juggled it all—career, motherhood, and the never-ending pressures society places on us. They tell us we’re not enough unless we’re working, making money, “doing it all.” Society pushes this narrative that moms must have high-powered careers, that staying home isn’t enough, that we need to measure up to the standards set by a culture that is pulling us away from our true calling.

But I’m here to tell you—that’s a lie.

Returning to work with a newborn was hard. I vividly remember walking into the office with my breast pump bag on my shoulder, pretending I could handle everything. But my heart was screaming something else. It knew where I belonged—with my children, raising them, teaching them God’s truth. But culture? It doesn’t care about that.

The Breaking Point: Why I Chose to Fight for My Family
Fast forward to today, and I’m seeing the cultural confusion every time I look around—schools pushing ideologies that challenge everything I stand for as a Christian mother. It’s not just about balancing work and family anymore. It’s about fighting back against a culture that is targeting our kids, telling them to question their identity (i.e. dressing like ‘furries’, wearing cat tails, masks, and ears are now the norm, meowing, purring, licking their ‘paws’ in class), question their gender, push sexual orientation, and encouraging behaviors that lead them further from God’s truth.

I knew I had to do something different. It wasn’t just about finding a way to work from home; it was about taking control of my children’s education and their hearts. One day, my son came home, asking about classmates who identified as “furries.” He didn’t understand. Frankly, neither did I. That was the moment I realized: I can’t rely on the world to teach my children. I have to take that responsibility myself.

But homeschooling? How could I make that work? I was already working full-time! That’s when God showed me there is a way. As Proverbs 31 teaches, we are capable, resilient, and resourceful. I found a way to work remotely, to homeschool, and to lead my family in a way that aligns with God’s truth, not the world’s confusion. How? I turned the skills I learned in corporate, and became a consultant for corporate. Taking my power back. Platforms like Fiverr make this easier than ever to do.

Proverbs 31 Warriors: Finding Your Strength and Fighting Back
Moms, we have been lied to. The world tells us we have to do it all—work full-time, raise kids, have a spotless house, be involved in every activity, and look good while doing it. But Proverbs 31 doesn’t call us to exhaustion. It calls us to wisdom, strength, and purpose.

You can be a working mom. You can homeschool. You can stand firm in your faith and raise your children to know God. It’s time we stop letting the culture dictate what we’re capable of and start living out the Proverbs 31 calling.

Here’s what I want you to know:

1. Work from Home Doesn’t Mean Sacrificing Your Values – I found remote work not as an escape from parenting, but as a way to combine work and family. Whether you’re a single mom, a married mom, or balancing both, there’s a path forward. You don’t have to choose between your career and your children’s hearts.

2. Homeschooling is Possible – It’s not just for stay-at-home moms or those with lots of resources. If God has put it on your heart to protect your children from what’s happening in schools, trust Him to guide you. It’s hard, yes, but anything worth doing is. Now more than ever there are so many free programs for homeschool curriculums, just google. Also- many communities like mine offer free homeschool community classes and meet ups. There are ‘co-ops’ you can join. Also, joining a church group or bible study helps you meet like minding parents who are doing this life, and can
show you the way. Don’t be afraid to get connected. Put yourself out there. Eventually you will land where God wants you.

3. You Are Stronger Than You Think – The Proverbs 31 woman “watches over the affairs of her household.” She rises early, works with eager hands, and provides for her family. That’s not just an ancient idea. That’s who you are—a warrior for your family, for your children, for your faith.

Standing Against Cultural Confusion with Grace and Truth
We are all sinners, and I’m not here to condemn anyone. But I will not stand by while the world tries to confuse my children about who God made them to be. The culture is targeting our kids—telling them to question everything God has already made clear. It’s time to fight back with grace and truth.

Teaching your children who they are in Christ is the most important thing you can do as a parent. The world says, “It’s okay to be whatever you feel like today.” But God says, “I created you in My image.” That’s the truth I’m raising my children with. And that’s the truth you can fight for too.

A Call to Action for Moms Everywhere: Fight Back with Faith
I’m fired up because I’m tired of seeing families suffer under the weight of cultural confusion. It’s time for us as moms to rise up, just like the Proverbs 31 woman, and take control of our homes, our children’s education, and their spiritual formation. We can work. We can homeschool. We can fight for our families and still find peace in knowing that God is in control.

You’re not alone in this. I know the struggles of balancing work, home, and faith, but I’ve seen the fruit that comes from following God’s design for family. When we walk in His truth, our children flourish, our homes are blessed, and we find strength we never knew we had.

Come to Jesus—He is the way, the truth, and the life. When the culture tries to pull you in every direction, He will anchor you. When the world tells you to question your faith, He will be your foundation. And when you feel like you’re not enough, remember—He is more than enough.

Moms, it’s time to rise up. Let’s fight back with faith, grace, and the strength God describes in Proverbs 31. We are the warriors God has called to protect the next generation. Let’s live it.
